Alan I. Rosenblatt, M.D. Specialist in Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics
A Special Pediatrician for Special Kids and Their Families Dr. Rosenblatt is Board Certified in both Pediatrics and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Rosenblatt was accepted into the B.A. M.D. program at Lehigh University and the Medical College of Pennsylvania at the age of 18 and graduated with highest honors. Following the completion of his pediatric residency at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC, Dr. Rosenblatt did his fellowship training in Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Throughout his career, Dr. Rosenblatt has managed to combine both clinical care and teaching across a wide variety of medical settings. He has been on the faculty of four different medical schools in the Washington, DC – Baltimore area, teaching medical students, residents and physicians. He has used his skills in other parts of the world, including stints in Israel (he is fluent in Hebrew) and Ethiopia. While in private practice in Bethesda, Maryland, Dr. Rosenblatt was listed among the region’s outstanding pediatricians in Washingtonian Magazine.
Dr. Rosenblatt has held professional leadership positions at the local, state and national levels on hospital committees, in pediatric societies and with the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has advocated on behalf of children with special needs by testifying before state legislative bodies. Dr. Rosenblatt's initiative and leadership led to the passing of the Illinois Habilitative Services Act for Children which was signed by the governor in 2009. He has also served on professional advisory boards to governmental committees and nonprofit organizations and has volunteered his services in the community and at summer camps. Dr. Rosenblatt is a cofounder of Camp STAR in Highland Park, a fun summer treatment program for children with ADHD and related disorders.
Family considerations prompted Dr. Rosenblatt’s decision to relocate with his wife and two daughters to the Chicago area in the fall of 2003. This new venture enabled him to open his current practice, devoted to the vast needs of families with children who have developmental challenges. As a participant in the multidisciplinary process—working together with parents, physicians, teachers, therapists and other involved professionals—Dr. Rosenblatt welcomes the opportunity to provide his expertise and services to his community.
Dr. Rosenblatt has an academic appointment to the faculty of the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. He teaches pediatric residents at Lurie Children's Hospital and sometimes in the office. Publications and lectures include educational material for parents, physicians and other health professionals on optimizing health and developmental outcomes in children.

Nearly 400 easy to understand, full color images depict common medical procedures, from bandaging to vaccine administration as well as important patient-provider communication, including describing symptoms or post-visit instructions. Each image is captioned in both English and Spanish for maximum in-office utility, and the pages are fully wipeable for simple disinfecting after each patient. This 90-minute powerful, award winning documentary features Owen Suskind, a former patient, whose family shares their journey with autism, from the time Owen started to regress as a toddler through his emergence as a charming young adult speaking before an audience of 3,000 at an international scientific conference on autism. The title of the film comes from the unique path that the Suskinds found to connect with their son and teach him about the world at large. Dr. Rosenblatt appears briefly in two different segments of the film providing context about Owen, his family and what was known about the diagnosis and treatment of this challenging neurodevelopmental disorder throughout Owen's childhood. The film is based on the best selling book by Owen's father, Ron Suskind, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, and is directed by Oscar winner Roger Ross Williams. On the DVD, extra features include a more elaborate discussion by Dr. Rosenblatt of the history of autism spectrum disorder.
